Diego poses for TeTu Magazine
October 2001
During my trip to Europe in October of 2001, I was asked to pose for TeTu, the leading gay and lesbian magazine in France. Shy as I am, I struggled with the idea (for about 2 seconds) and then I said yes. TeTu was getting ready to write an article on the growing bear culture, which they explained to me was a new movement in France (I was familiar with it since we had bears in the US for quite a while now). I been a bear all my life, so this was not only fun but very flattering to me. I thought they were just going to pull a Polaroid and snap a couple shots, however they gave a business card and told me to show up the following day at the studio of the photographer.

The photographer was an adorable bear from Italy by the name of Cosimo Mirco. He only spoke Italian and French, I only spoke English and Spanish. After a few failed attemps at communication, I finally started trying my luck in speaking Italian and the two of us bonded. I wish he would have taken pictures of everything we were doing when we were not taking pictures, nonetheless, my afternoon with Mirco in his little studio in a small street in Paris will forever be burned in my mind and in my skin.
Viva La France!
