"It's true that the French have a certain obsession with sex, but it's a particularly adult obsession. France is the thriftiest of all nations; to a Frenchman sex provides the most economical way to have fun. The French are a logical race."
by Anita Loos
Eiffel Tower
The Eiffel Tower has by far the most amazing views of the city. Once you get passed the crowds of tourist, it is really a wonderful place. There was a lot of extra security on the tower when I was there, 9/11 was just a month away and the French were afraid that there would be an attempt against the Tower. I put my fears aside as I went crazy with the camera to capture all I wanted to capture.
The structure was built in 1889 for the Universal Exhibition, and also is there to commemorate the centenial of the French Revolution. It was the tallest building in the world until the Empire State took its place as the tallest.
Montmartre and Sacre-Coeur
The hill
by the
name of
Montmartre has come to be know as the hub of artist for the last two hundred years. Martin
Utrillo immortalized the streets in his works. Today the artist thrive in
the tourist areas. This was a great place to stop at one of the many open cafes
on the neighborhood next to the church, order a bottle of wine and watch people and
the art they were taking home. Had I not been traveling with a backpack only, I
would have tried to get one of the beautiful paintings home.
The top of the hill is also home to the very
beautiful Sacre-Coeur church. This Neo-Romanesque church started in 1870's and completed in 1914. Here I sat for a couple hours. For the first time
in my life, I understood Miss Universe when she wants world peace, It was a scary time and you knew
that the war was inevitable.
